ADA Codes for Computer Floors – Steps

FOR STEPS:

 

RISER HEIGHT:

 

Maximum riser height shall not exceed 7”.
Minimum riser height shall be 4”.

STEP WIDTH:

 

Most steps are 3’ wide. When you get over 6’, there are center handrail requirements that kick in. (You need to install a handrail in the center of the step)

STEP DEPTH:

 

Minimum: Step to be 12” deep
Maximum depth 14”.

SURFACE:

 

Non slip protection required with more than two steps.
