Carpet for Access Floors

CARPET

Carpet has been used successfully in and around raised floor environments for two decades. The first generation of carpeting was not the best for the equipment and caused particulate problems for the users. But the anti-static carpet of today is manufactured using a better process, virtually eliminating all the old problems. Excellent constructed carpet squares currently being manufactured resist fraying, unraveling or bending up. They offer some of the highest protection for an anti-static environment.

Carpet is a great selection for a raised floor. Here are your options:

1. 24" x 24" Carpet tiles. These are tacky glued to raised floor panels. Simple. Lift one carpet square then one panel. Perfect design.

2. Raised floor where the carpet is glued directly to the panel at the factory. This is called Carpeted Panels. They are available with or without edge trim. Edge trim means a small plastic strip, usually in black or brown, that will border each panel. At one point in time with underdeveloped manufacturing processes for the carpet, edge trim was needed to stop the carpet on the panels from unraveling. Not anymore. The combination of materials used today in carpet designed for raised floor panels eliminates the need for edge trim. No edge trim looks more like roll goods type of carpeting in a facility. We recommend Carpeted Panels with NO edge trim.

3. 24" x 24" Carpet tiles (called PosiTile)that interlock with a specially designed raised floor panel. Great if you are designing from the ground up but not something you can retrofit without the exact panel.

4. 18" x 18" Carpet tiles. Who ever thought of that? Since raised floors are 2' square, you will have to pick up four tiles every time you access under the raised floor. Unless it is a general office application, we try and steer users away from 18" x 18" installations. With a frequently accessed floor, that is a lot of taking panels up and down. Getting the carpet put back together and looking neat becomes an art. Unless you have to stay with the 18" x 18", the 24" x 24" option is better.

5. Just a note, it is important to place mats under chairs around operating consoles. The back and forth motion of chair casters is not something ANY carpet will resist over a period of time. Plan on using anti-static mats to protect the carpet in these heavy duty installations.

6. Roll goods. All of the carpeting here is available in roll goods for direct glue application.

We have an excellent selection of ESD anti-static carpet available.
